Thanks for finding the Bonedance home-page! I'd still like to get some .WAV or .RA files on the page so you can check out Bonedance's sound if you haven't heard them before. For now, you'll just have to take my word for it -- they were one of the most intense unsigned rock/metal/alternative acts in the Southeast, with a sound reminiscent of KoRn mixed with Rage Against the Machine.

Band News:

The band's last show was December 26th, 1996. Noj's personal problems, described as an almost complete change in his attitude and outlook (possibly tied in with a break from his girlfriend Melissa) were the reason Noj left (or was dropped from) the band, and eventually people started going their separate ways. (Chris and Jon were adoptive brothers and best friends before that, so this situation was a tremendous strain on both of them.)

Chris is now in Florida in a band called Birth, Brian is still in the Atlanta area as far as I know and Noj's whereabouts are unknown. Eric played drums for other local bands like Miller's Tale and Redrum for a while, and he's now playing for Dick Delicious and The Tasty Testicles, who tour regionally. (Eric is a good enough drummer to find work almost anywhere and with almost anyone.)

Two 6-song CDs were burned from the Winter '96 studio DAT and were sent back to Georgia. Many thanks to Ryan "Skadz" Skadberg for his help in arranging the remastering and CD burning. I've just recently recorded the original April 1996 demo onto CD, and other changes are coming.

Demo Tapes and CDs

As mentioned above, a 6-song EP has been produced. The band isn't completely happy with the studio sessions from which the DAT was taken, and they'd rather not have too many copies made. The songs are Head, Leslie's Toothbrush, Trees, Step, On the Way and Soul Embodied. On this CD, "Head" was recorded at normal speed, while the remainder of the songs (which were taken from the studio DAT) sound a bit slow. On some songs this kinda sounds heavier and therefore cool. :)

Cassette dubs of their first 7-song demo (April 1996), plus other material as requested, are also available from me directly to US addresses for $3, or $5 if you'd like Priority Mail shipping (handy and speedy). You can also send me a tape and a postpaid mailer; that'd be quicker for me.

The April '96 demo is quite old now, and several songs on it are no longer played at shows. Here's the track listing, with a "*" denoting songs that are still part of Bonedance's repertoire:

  • 7-Leaf Groove *
  • Step *
  • Soul Embodied * (new, revised beginning)
  • No Compromise
  • Head *
  • Slave (I liked this one a lot)
  • Come Down
  • If you'd like a tape and you're overseas, contact me via email and we'll make an arrangement. :) My address is:

This material is one-of-a-kind: no other master copies of this material exist aside from mine.

Also available are a few soundboard tapes. The first is from their show at Atlanta's Masquerade, Fri. Sept. 13th (ooooooh). Despite the dire date and the relatively small crowd, it was a fairly good show and a 'decent' soundboard copy. I can copy it on the other side of the 7-song demo (add $1) or send it separately with the same arrangements and price. The setlist:
  • Leslie's Toothbrush
  • 7-Leaf Groove
  • On the Way
  • Trees
  • Soul Embodied (revised version)
  • Head
  • Only the Beginning
  • Step (alas, broken in two -- finishes on side 2 of the soundboard master)
  • Another soundboard tape exists from their last show, December 26th, 1996, at The Point. Ironically this was the first time they ever played that storied venue and, at this writing, apparently their last show for a long, long time. The entire tape has a slightly annoying reverb added to it by The Point's sound guy, and he forget to start the tape at the beginning. Here's the setlist:
This is the only known recording of their live cover of "Killing in the Name," which they make even more intense than Rage's own version by doing it about 50% faster. My friend Chris/"Onionhead" did impromptu backing vox on the song at this show A dub of this tape is available with the same arrangements as above.

    Past shows and comments

    Atlanta, GA Thurs., December 26th.
At the Point (first-ever appearance there), one of Atlanta's most-revered venues. Bonedance headlined at this show and drew a surprising number of their faithful, especially in view of the timing (right after Christmas, with many people out of town), the weather, and the lack of advance warning (the show was booked less than a week beforehand). They went on at about midnight; the crowd was extremely supportive and the venue has pretty good sound (it's a small room, capacity c. 200). Since they were headlining and we begged them :), they covered "Killing in the Name" to close out their set. A soundboard tape was made, but -- damnit -- doesn't include the excellent new set intro or "On the Way" (the soundman may have forgotten to press [PLAY]). The setlist:
    • Intro
    • On the Way
    • Soul Embodied
    • Head
    • Only the Beginning
    • 7-Leaf Groove
    • Step
    • Trees
    • Leslie's Toothbrush
    • brief improvisational bit
    • Killing in the Name
    Atlanta, GA Fri., November 29th.
At the Masquerade. Bonedance played first, alas and damnit, and opened for Crawlspace (who are now being called Sevendust, since "Crawlspace" was already taken) and Synical. Despite the early start a quite considerable number of people had wandered in by the second song ("Soul Embodied") and as soon as the lights went down, at least two dozen folks promptly went forward to the front by the stage, which was cool to see. More joined them later. Some sound problems and lack of lighting flawed this performance: at one point the monitor sound failed during "Only the Beginning," causing a bit of meandering until things picked up again, and Brice reported he never heard his keyboards in the stage mix. Lack of lighting at one point caused a slow 'cue' on Brian reading his setlist. Despite this, the show was nevertheless well-received by the crowd. A soundboard tape was acquired and is available by e-mail arrangement. The setlist (from memory):
    1. Trees
    2. Soul Embodied
    3. Only the Beginning
    4. Head
    5. On the Way
    6. Step
    7. Leslie's Toothbrush
    Atlanta, GA Fri., Sept 27th
At the Masquerade. This show also featured Urban Grind, Bullhead Clap and Crawlspace, Atlanta's next famous band. Crawlspace (now Sevendust) had just been signed to a deal by TVT Records, and this was a rare pre-release local show allowed by TVT. Bonedance went on first, which limited their crowd somewhat (several friends were late for their set), but they got a good response. The major part of the crowd, alas, filed in after their set and during Urban Grind's, who followed. No soundboard tape was acquired, as the soundboard tape-deck was jammed up -- a real pity since Bonedance did perform their Rage Against the Machine medley at the end of the show, and 'twas one of the best renditions they ever did. The setlist consisted of the same songs as on the Sept. 13th soundboard tape, but ordered slightly differently.
    Marietta, GA Fri. Sept. 20th
Club Kaos (the old Strand Theater) on Marietta Square. This show sounded pretty good despite Brian breaking a string on his "main" guitar (so he switched to his backup). Small crowd at this fledgling venue, which has still to get its liquor-license. For some still-unknown reason, they played "Soul Embodied" instead of "Trees" at that point in the set, then did "Trees" afterward. Since it was a headlining show, they performed the beginning of Rage's "Bulls on Parade" then segued into "Killing in the Name," the whole thing: their traditional RAtM medley. :) The venue has no soundboard recorder, so no tape.
    Atlanta, GA Fri. Sept. 13th
Jeff George Foundation benefit show with Violet, Entropy and Life the Universe and Everything, at Atlanta's Masquerade. Ill-attended (there are few things reviled in Atlanta more than the Falcons and their quarterback, Mr. George), yet a good show from Bonedance. Cassette dubs of the soundboard tape are available from me, same pricing arrangements as the 7-track demo. This tape has most of the new material, including good stuff ("On the Way") and stuff that still needs work ("Only the Beginning").
Alas, they were not allowed to play their cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name" at this show, which was supposedly carried on the Internet as a CUSeeMe videocast.
    Sat. Aug 31st
Mike "Junk" Miller benefit show with Urban Grind, Bullhead Clap and Knut at the Masquerade. (Crawlspace and Dick Delicious & the Tasty Testicles had been scheduled but were dropped, Crawlspace because TVT Records disallowed their performance and Dick Delicious because they didn't like their time slot.) Only a fair performance from Bonedance, as Chris' voice was strained and hoarse from a lot of practicing, plus some of the new material didn't sound that hot here. The soundboard tape sounds crappy too, so I won't be dubbing it.
    Marietta, GA Fri. Aug. 23rd
With Life, the Universe and Everything and Burden Fly at Club Kaos (the old Strand Theater), Marietta GA town square. This show was also ill-attended, but a good time was had by all and the post-show festivities outside, replete with cars going the wrong way on one-way roads and miscellanous car parts recovered as evidence, were tons o' fun. No soundboard copy of the show was acquired; a pity, since they did perform "Killing in the Name" at this show.
Smyrna and Gainesville, GA various dates
Bonedance played several shows at Streamers in Gainesville and the Pterodactyl in Smyrna between the Dragon*Con show and the Masquerade show above. The Streamers dates were easily the best-attended, and suffered only from a fledgling sound system. The Pterodactyl's crowds were sparse due to its location and lack of advertising. I'd post more detailed info, but I forget the exact dates.
    Atlanta, GA June 12, 1996
At Dragon*Con, the Wednesday night before the convention actually started. This was a fun show because I hopped up on stage and helped with the backing vocals on "Killing in the Name" at the end ("..got you under controollll!"). The band had a good time checking out the convention later in the weekend.
    Various locations and dates
Bonedance played numerous shows and venues before their Dragon*Con show, including the old and much-missed Wreck Room, the Roxy Theater, Streamers in Gainesville, the Masquerade, etc.

Thanks for visiting the page! Although Bonedance as a band are sadly no more, they remain good musicians and friends and I wish them well wherever their various paths take them. We've lost contact with most of the guys in the band, and we miss 'em!
